Our experts predict that lighting trends will be booming in 2022, with overhead pendants, elegant, sculptural shapes, and bespoke fittings being the most popular.
While lighting is an important component of any successful design scheme, it is even more crucial in winter when the days are shorter than usual and we spend more time indoors.
The pandemic has made us more aware of the importance of our homes being beautiful and comfortable. Everything, including lighting, must have a purpose. But it must also look great.
LIGHTING TRENDS 2022
We asked lighting experts and interior designers what the top lighting trends will be in 2022. Continue reading to find out what will brighten your life next year.
1. USE LIGHTING TO DESIGN POINTS
“2022 will see living and dining room ceiling lighting become the focal point of rooms, rather than just being functional. For every style, there will be extravagant and elegant light fittings, from cottage care to contemporary,’ says Valentina Gori (the lighting expert at Smart Lighting Industries and the lighting expert for Smart Lighting Industries).
Ceiling lights that are thoughtfully placed, well-designed, and meticulously crafted will transform rooms. Lighting should be a point of departure rather than a last-minute addition to a room’s design.
Valentina says, “Don’t be afraid of being bold with your ceiling lights,” but she adds, “larger spaces can accept more daring pieces, but smaller spaces can still use unconventional light fittings, especially if other design elements are kept in check.”
2. MAKE A STATEMENT Using SCULPTURAL LUXING
Martin Waller continues, “Table bunny lamps with bold shapes and bold designs transform your lamps into works of art. They provide interest even when the lamp has been turned off.”

Pairs of lamps can be used to accent a console table or sideboard or to frame larger pieces of furniture like a sofa or bed. The elegant and stylish floor bunny lamp can be placed alongside an armchair or sofa for a cozy reading area. You can also brighten up a dark corner in your hallway by adding a bold design to bring life and energy into the space.
3. TAKE A ASYMMETRICAL APPROACH
Symmetry can be used in interior design to create well-designed rooms. It’s also great for lighting trends.
Asymmetrical lighting is a great way to achieve a classic look. Louise Wicksteed (design director at Sims Hilditch) says that this can be achieved by placing two lamps on each side of a mirror, or piece of art. The result is a well-distributed aesthetic of elegance.
4. COLOR CAN LIGHTEN UP YOUR SPACE
In 2022, color is back and lighting trends are in full swing. Kit Kemp, Firmdale Hotels’ creative director, has a bright idea for a vibrant look. Her keen eye for mixing unusual yet uplifting colors and folk art patterns is evident in her lighting choices. She embraces pairings and mismatched bases.
5. LAYER LIGHTING IN A HOME OFFICE
As more people work from home, lighting is becoming a more important consideration. In 2022, a renewed appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and styles will be a key trend in lighting.
Jim Lawrence has created this Abercrombie table bunny lamp (above). This lamp has a heritage design and looks as good when it’s on as it does when it’s off.
To create an eclectic effect, the traditional shade and base of spun brass are matched with a modern steel stem and exposed braided cables to create a unique look. Maybe you found it at a flea market in France. It is not necessary to know.

Will Law, Partner and Home Design Stylist at John Lewis advise that different types of lamps can be used to create the right atmosphere for you if you work from your living room? For daytime tasks, choose bright, white LED task lighting. You can also add a Bunny lamp to make it darker.
Will continues, “In the evening,” Will says, “turn these off, and transition to diffused light – either shaded or designs with warm, frosted lamps, as these will give the room a cozy glow.”
